Canada - Registrars that allow e-auditing for ISO 9001?

Hi - I am new to this type of forum but here is my issue: we have centralised processes and all records are electronic. I have several sites in Canada but I want a registrar who will audit my HQ on site and all other sites remotely. Do you know of any such Registrars?

Welcome to The Cove. In principle, virtual-only audits are not allowed. ISO 17021 requires the registrars to perform on-site audits. The IAF mandatory Document #4 allows for (partial) virtual audits of virtual sites.

The above applies to properly accredited registrars, as they have to follow ISO 17021. The unaccredited and pseudo-accredited registrars will be happy to take your money, issue a certificate, while remotely auditing you, if you catch my drift...;)

Thank you for your answer - do you know if there are exceptions to this rule? We have no manufacturing or on-site services - We provide installations and maintenance services for our customers but have no activities on our own sites, other than administrative tasks, and those are done at HQ.

If I were an auditor supposed to certify an organization and the scope of certification included installation and maintenance of equipment, I surely would like to observe the technician performing the work. So, if the work happens at a customer site, arrangements would have to be made to allow the CB auditor access so s/he could observe the technician and ask appropriate questions during the work.

Proper management system auditing goes well beyond review of records.

If a CB is an IAF accredited CB, then no exceptions. If you provide what you describe, certification audits can/must be audited at the client site. I have audited many construction-related companies by visiting their client owned sites.
