Hi,

New QM into a small/medium sized US company - looking for general hints / tips and experiences in topics like team building exercises / communication tools, techniques and improvements and brainstorming ideas.

I just want to gather information from various sources through all industries - please share - interested in how you look into "quality cultures and climates" within an organisation.

Re: New Quality Manager

Why not give us a little of your background so we don't meander all over the place?

  • What experience do you have in the quality profession?
  • Is your current company highly regulated? not regulated?
  • currently registered to an International Quality Management System? does it aspire to such registration if not currently registered?
  • was there a predecessor to your post or are you the first?
My point is that team building and the other stuff you list is worthless if you don't have the basics of "Quality" down to inculcate into the team.

One of the things that many new managers faced is the fact that management is very much a 'situational' game. What works today may not work tomorrow following changes some where. You really need a toolbox full of tools.

Another mistake that many people and organizations made is the thought that talking = implementing. In other words, you need to walk the talk, show and lead by example.

Data analysis is key as long as you make sure you have good data. Manufacturing 4.0 initiatives really help you work smarter and faster.
Brainstorming is most effective if you have diversity of thought. Cross-functional and cross cultural input is a must.

Seven years later and we haven't heard from original poster in this thread. Makes me wonder what happened with him and his situation. Looking back through his posts (most recently in February 2018), he asks questions, but hasn't given feedback on any answers as to how the have or have not helped him.

It appears he came online in July of 2019 so i can only assume he is still involved in the Quality world. I started as a Quality Manager May of this year. Been a journey and still have a long road a head. Learning stuff everyday. You bring up a good point, I should go back through my post and give feedback so people aren't just wondering. Sounds like a good way to spend my Wednesday morning tomorrow.
