Covers, I about choked when I read the article below...decades later firms are still obsessed with Inspecting In Quality, rather than performing due diligence, controlling inputs, managing suppliers, proper APQP planning etc. IF, this was an occasional thing with this OEM or many others, then the case could be made that...the subject event(s) are an aberration. Your thoughts are welcomed...

If a Ford SQE (or STA, or whatever) saw something like that going on at a supplier's plant, there would be about 40 different kinds of hell to pay.

Deming would be rolling in his grave.

The same OEM (one of many) that demand totally different behavior from their supply chain. Who are the OEM accountable to? Who is IATF reporting the OEM,s to?

The question that should be asked here is not WHO is doing the rework and off-line inspection, but WHY are they doing rework and off-line inspection. Hmmmm.

Be well. (Oh, in spite of this type of behavior and the year that has been 2020, BEST wishes and happy holiday to all !)

John spot on...and this particluar OEM has goen through countless Quality Is Job One resets, only to frequently loose its way....a scary and expensive (warranty $$ & rework $$ as well as customers exiting) way to do business...

Covers to be clear the post is not pointed at any particular OEM or Mfg, and despite the above post I can spiel. The COVID 19 matter certainly complicates matters in a big way, however, last year?? the same OEM had similar fits and starts at another assembly point launching a new SUV..Happy New Year to all, stay safe and stay well. Randy's post is good, I am good with a low mileage Big Three vehicle pre-2012...kind of a rough tipping point re: number micros and associated lines of code on board really took off...
