Hello, I tried searching the forum for this question but no luck.

What is the document I can reference that specifies the ISO 9001:2015 audit rules? I am looking specifically for the time window that is allowed for completing the recertification audit. Thanks

Hi Dan,

Registrars often post this type of information on their web sites.

Your certificate shows an expiration date. In my experience Registrars prefer to do the recertification audit 3 months before the certificate expires, so as to leave time for corrective action (if any, including time to respond, actions and time for the auditor to review and close) and an office review to make sure everything is in order to re-issue the certificate.

I hope this helps.

Although it may not answer your specific question the main requirements dealing with auditors and registration / certification bodies is found in ISO 17021.

Thanks for the information. It seems like I just need to contact the registrar. I'm trying to extend out a recertification audit as far as possible. Probably one of the most commonly asked questions of registrars by clients.

Recertification audit needs to be done within 3 years from earlier recertification/Stage-2 audit. (+0, -3 months).

This timeline is for IATF, but I believe it is same for ISO9001. You can find these rules in IAF MDs (Mandatory documents) (as far as I remember).

Why?

Because I need to reschedule an audit and wanted to know how many days prior to cert expiration is allowed. It seems that it is based on the closing meeting of (certification audit +364) and this is what I’m familiar with from IATF.

Ok, I am very familiar with this. Thanks

60-90 days is average. Any less than 60 there's a potential for horrible failure if you get a serious NC, then' there's technical review failures so on and so forth. Cut the timing too fine resulting in the certificate expiring there aren't any do-overs and you start from scratch.

Here's a unique concept.........Is there any reason why you just can't ask your CB?

I wanted to re-educate myself about reaudit timing rules and best practices before discussing with the CB. I appreciate your comment about the risk of not allowing enough time if there is a Major NC to close out.
