But of course! And I was still "cute" back then.... If you look close, you may be able to make out a couple of elephant heads on my t-shirt. That was my Mt. Kenya Safari Club t-shirt from a trip to Kenya (I think that was the 1981 trip that I picked that up).
My father painted the picture of the Sanibel light house above me.
That being said - That was from many years ago. That house was bulldozed probably 20 years ago and part of the land it was on was part of a tennis court of a hotel or something, I think, around 1999. It was near the end of what was Shell Basket Lane. Sanibel is so developed these days and it's been about 10 years since I've been there that it's part of the past. I spent a summer there working in Bailey's grocery store (1967?) and I spent a few months there washing dishes in what was Timmy's Nook up on Captiva one year.
My father bought a few lots there back in the late 1940's and built a house on one. We used to vacation there twice a year. It was pre-expressways - A 3 day drive (and those were 3 LONG days). And - You had to make the last ferry to the island (4.00PM). If you didn't, since there were few motels (and they'd be booked), you would have to sleep in the car (parents, 4 kids and a grand mother) until the morning ferry. I could tell you stories that make National Lampoon's Vacation movies tame. I think I was still in diapers the first trip I went.
