Creating Flow and Pull Game

Starting to get Involved
Ive been given the task to deliver a Presentation on Flow and Pull with idealy using something interaction or at least visual within 15 minutes.

Ive used numerous games before but these sessions take half a day minimum.

Anyone got a quick interactive games that can be used to demonstrate Flow and Pull with minimal prep time?

I like the tennis ball game for executives. It only takes a half hour at most.
It’s not strictly flow vs. push but it addresses many of the problems that need to be solved before you can achieve flow OR pull…

When our business first started aggressively using the Lean / Toyota way framework, we did a few activities.

First, each individual tries to make as many paper airplanes as possible by themselves in time limit. Then split people into small groups and form a little manufacturing line, with each person doing a certain number of folds. Some folds will naturally take more time than others, so there will be buildups in the line. The most efficient path will likely involve the most time intensive steps having more people assigned to them and the quickest steps with the fewest people assign to them.

Another lesson for pull vs. push would be how the people at the end of the process sit and wait until the first "WIP" parts hit their operation.

The Lean Dot game can be done in a relatively short time frame. It usually goes in (3) 15-minute rounds. Each round is 5-minutes of activity followed by 10-minutes of discussion of what happened and planning the next round.

The dot game is interesting; I hadn't heard of it, Miner.

I wouldn't be surprised if the person who led the paper airplane game at our company had done the Lean Dot game before and adapted it to just require 8.5x11 sheets of paper. It was for an event with hundreds of people - that would have been a lot of stickers!
