Fit form and function is a inventory control term describing a component of a bill of material. If the fit form and function are the same two parts are interchangeable, if not they must have different part numbers.

If you change the fit form or function of a component, you must also change the part number.

Good day Al, or anyone in the forum. Is laser mark considered a form, fit or function change?

Did you read the MIL spec definitions that Al provided in this thread? A change of markings would be in the "form" category.

If you change the marking method, the part may still remain interchangeable. What is the requirement? Please give us some details so we can better help you.

Suppose it depends if the item had any coatings or similar processes applied before the marking? For example if you laser marked a piece of Aluminium after the conversion coating process then you have damaged the coating applied which would change its characteristic's, where as if it was laser marked before coating then you havent
