When in doubt, ask the customer. Get the waiver, if it's allowed, in writing.
EDIT: There has been a lot of discussion of this topic here. See PPAP for Distributor
I don't know how you could possibly do it for manufacturing. All you're doing is papering the file.
I would just do it for your value added -- inventory, storage, shipment, etc.
New to this forum so I apologize if this is a repeat. What is the risk assumed when a distributor completes a PPAP for products they do not manufacture? Some of our suppliers will not or cannot complete a PPAP and with customer requirements we must submit one. With no control over the...
Re: Manufacturer Vs. Supplier
Opinions may vary...and your customer's opinion (the guy who accepts or rejects your PPAP) has the opinion that counts.
The person you pay for the part...the one who ships it to you that you go back to if there is a problem...that's your supplier.
The one(s)...
I'm new to a distributor who does no manufacturing or processing of the items we distribute in the automotive space, other than receiving sealed boxes from the mfg and storing them until they are ordered, picked and shipped ( still sealed in the mfg cartons) . Currently we are supplying PPAPs to...
Thanks for the response and perspective. Yes, although I definitely have not seen as many PPAP's as you have, and do agree that all sub-supplier components require PPAP. Appendix F deals with the Applicability of PPAP to bulk materials and seemed to me to allow some discretion of the OEM and...
Re: TS 16949 Planning Phase: Raw Materials purchased from Distributer and the PPAP im
Book world vs. Real world.
Technically, if you're going by the book you'll need a PPAP from each distributor (an down to their distributor).
But in the real world, steel is produced by literally a handful...
Re: TS 16949 Planning Phase: Raw Materials purchased from Distributer and the PPAP im
Hi,
just to get a bit of clarity on your supplier situation:
Does the material (e.g. steel) come from the same manufacturing source via different distributors?
Do the distributors affect the product in any...
Hi Folks.
We are looking at TS 16949 and were reviewing the PPAP requirements through the manual. Table 3.1 in the PPAP manual refers to Customer Notification. Point 5 indicates a new PPAP is required for Parts, Non-equivalent materials, or services.
We are not a big fish and therefore...
It all depends what your customer and your organization require. ISO/TS 16949:2009 in 7.5.3 states: "Where traceability is a requirement, the organization shall control the unique identification of the product and maintain records (see 4.2.4)."
So if the M20 nut eventually ends up on a...
2.2.12 of the 4th edition PPAP manual, in part: Inspection and testing for PPAP shall be performed by a qualified laboratory as defined by customer requirements (e.g., an accredited laboratory). The qualified laboratory (internal or external to the organization) shall have a laboratory scope and...
That is why the steel mill was supposed to do a PPAP, as part of the validation process, to show that their internal lab is, in fact, competent and capable. That is what Jim and I were discussing. You can also have an independent external lab test a sample, if you have any doubts about the...
I think you are missing the problem. The steel mill or distributor usually provides a mill cert. of the material they supply. That testing is usually done internally at the supplier/mill. Those internal labs may or may not be "compliant" per TS rules. But how does the component supplier show...
I have been going through various threads trying to find an answer to my quandary. Some were close but I felt I needed to post this to revisit this discussion.
We get daily requests from customers to quote stock parts (we supply standard all metal nuts and lock nuts - distributor level) with...
We are a Quality Added manufacturer of wire harnesses.
That's a fancy way of saying, "We assemble pre manufactured wire and connectors to build wire harnesses."
We are a supplier to a large global manufacturer that buys both custom harnesses and small repair parts from us.
They are...
Re: PPAP Requirements for Annual Revalidations
If there is a requirement for annual PPAP submissions or layouts, it comes from the customer and not from the standards.
Hello Fellow Covers,
So I've almost been a little confused by the topic of PPAP Revalidations. I've been told by a couple different people that we "should" be doing PPAP revalidations for all PPAP parts per the AIAG manual (keep in mind we are an ISO 9001 certified distributor not...
Hey Everyone,
I've been following the cove for a couple months and recently decided to join. As you can tell from below I'm new to ISO/Quality/and the fastener industry as a whole, so I have lots of questions and look forward to hearing your answers on different topics.
Name. Jake
Job Title...
Agree with you.
Consider that we are in semicon device fabrication and part of the suppliers are corporate ones and used in multiple sites.
As manufacturing site, only we are certified vs ISO TS . SO , the issue is more complex.
Consider that some regional suppliers of raw material, that we...
I've never had an auditor raise this, and would fight it if they ever did. If I am allowed to determine which of my supplier are critical and need to be "approved", I should also be able to determine critical levels for PPAP vs no-PPAP. At the bottom of the food chain (tier 2 & 3) much of PPAP...
