2005 NFL Season (and fantasy football too)

Any NFL fans here?

I was born and raised in Wisconsin so naturally I'm a die-hard Packer fan - yes, I own a share of stock and am on the waiting list for season tickets. I have high hopes for this year if the defense and kick return units improve from their preseason performance.

I've also been playing fantasy sports since 1985. I've had to scale back some lately with family obligations (didn't have a baseball team this year) but I still managed to make the live on-line draft for my football team this year.

Fantasy sports appeals to the analytical side of my brain, just wondering if others here have found that to be true as well.

Personally I'm not sure how it's possible to be a football fan and participate in that fantasy stuff, as odd as that might sound. To me, there's nothing more irritating than trying to watch a game when there are fantasy players present who are more concerned with the performance of individuals than with team performance, or the actual outcomes of games. I don't get it.

I am an NFL fan and I watch football everytime it is on. I personally like the Raiders and so does my son. My husband is a Steelers fan so it gets interesting around our house during football season.

I play beat the experts and college football pick on cnn.

I think it's a function of every fan wanting to be a general manager.

I agree with you there. If the Pack lose, I'm down. My fantasy team may have won, but it's a small cosolation. Both lost? Um, did the vikes and bears get beat?

Two words...
...Go Bills!

I wish we were allowed to wear sports stuff on casual Fridays - I'd be wearing my Moorman jersey every Friday during the season.
(...well, except for the bye week, of course!)

I am just beginning to learn about football. I enjoy watching college football, but I just can’t get into the NFL. I think it’s because the college players just aren’t quite as good, so you get a lot more interesting situations during the games.

I don’t know anywhere near enough about football to play fantasy football, but I tried playing fantasy hockey one season and it didn’t work out for me for the reason JSW described. Either I filled every position with a Redwings player, or else I just didn’t care how my fantasy team did.

One fantasy sport that IS really fun is NASCAR, although I guess if you were loyal to DEI, Rousch or another team, you might run into the same problem. I was never really into NASCAR until friends talked me into playing fantasy – once you care a little bit who wins, it adds just enough interest to the sport that with a few good wrecks, a race can be pretty exciting.

Thank goodness it's finally here.

AFC-My Titans got off to a WONDERFUL start yesterday! It may be a long season.

NFC-My Rams got off to a WONDERFUL start yesterday! Beaten by the '49 ers. I STILL have a hard time saying that. The '49 ers DID look sharp for 3 quarters yesterday. The Rams still have a great kicker and a bunch of cardboard cutouts for Special Teams. Great improvement fellas!

I noticed some good changes on some teams yesterday. A couple who couldn't even SPELL defense last year actually showed up with one yesterday, especially the Chiefs. I hate the Bills (if they hadn't benched Flutie in favor of Rob, they'd have gone to the Super Bowl), but a local kid name Wilson just got his first NFL spot with them, so I'll be rooting for him.

I'm so happy now!

Wille Parker did a nice job of running the ball for the Steelers. He had 161 yards. He wasn't even a starter much in college.

I have trouble this time of year going back and forth between baseball and football. I'm old enough to remember My Bears lost to the Redskins on the road yesterday. They didn't give up a touchdown and still managed to lose. At least the Packers and Vikings also lost. I'm old enough to remember when the Bears always had to play their first four games on the road every year because they shared Wrigley Field with the Cubs, and unlike some of the multi-purpose stadiums, they couldn't both play there because they had to erect bleachers perpendicular to the right field foul line for the Bears. The field was only 119 yards long, endline to endline, and as it was, the north endzone ended abruptly at the (brick) left field wall, and if you weren't careful on the other end you'd wind up in the baseball visitors' dugout. The Bears moved to Soldier Field for the 1971 season, and part of the impetus was that the Cubs had a pretty good team at the time, and were threatening to extend the season into October. Of course, that didn't happen until 1984, but...

The Steelers looked good yesterday. I wish I could say the same about my Raiders (although New England didn't just blow them out) as I thought they would. Randy Moss was very active and may help the Raiders out with their offense.
