5S Red Tag and ISO Procedure Red Tag - Tag Color Conflict

My ISO procedure stated that the red tags is for Customer Returns, however, our 5S program stated that the red Tag is for product that we are not goin to use. Is not this a conflict in color code? Please advise

Would there be a confusion with the people using the tags? Do the people who use them who handle product, ever get to handle customer returns? The color isn't exactly the issue, more the reason for the reject and how you process it.

Your procedure can explain both - as long as the people are clear in what's going on. It doesn't HAVE to be an "either, or" situation...

Why would there be any confusion? A red tag on a box of produced product means a customer return. A red tag on something typically used for production means we are going to eliminate the item.

what about the color blind folks?

seriously, symbols and text can be used to denote what the tag is for. don't get all wrapped around the axle on this.

Most 5S red tags I have seen are not blank red tags. The same hold true for quality red tags. Normally, they have some data fields on them. So, the identification to tell them apart would be the data fields. If they are both blank tags, you could use the same tag for both. But once again, in both instances, you want to record on the tag why the tag was there, so there still should be no problem figuring out which is which.

You would probably need some form of guidance on how to tell the difference, but that, too should be no biggie.
