7.5.4 Customer Property (Shipping Containers)

What are our responsibilities concerning shipping containers provided by our customer for shipping product. These are wire baskets - with various company names stenciled on them - including that of one our competitors. How are we to "identify, verify" these baskets?
Incidentally, we get the same baskets from different customers - complete with competitor’s stencil!

IMO a lot of people misunderstand the intent of 7.5.4.
identify - the customers name, part number, type, etc.
Verify - that you have the right container in the right location, storage conditions and indication of inspection.
Protect - Keep them in an area where they cannot be damaged,
Safeguard - Prevent un-authorized use.
Records - Maintain a customer log and show evidence of verification.

Company names are not needed.

Sam is spot on here.

We use a "Bin Identification Form" which is simply a sheet of paper identifying the parts and lot that was in the bin/container before we dumped it to process it. The "BIF" stays with the container and is matched up with the finished parts to ensure the parts go back in the same container they came in.
