8.4.2.3 Supplier QMS development - Responsible Distributor certified vs ISO 9001??

We are onboarding two suppliers to our approved supplier list and discovered that, because they are distributors and not manufacturers, they have opted for being NACD Responsible Distribution certified and not ISO 9001. Upon asking, I have received a matrix created by NACD that compares the two standards to each other and I feel it is very comprehensive. I have not reviewed it line item by line item but, my questions is, since IATF states ISO9001 specifically for supplier certification, how do I reconcile this certification as acceptable for an ISO 9001 cert?

You probably can't. But take a hard look at the TS requirement and see if there is a little wiggle room -- i.e.; "plans to achieve" or customer approval, etc.

Is this a critical supplier? Distributor may not.. Probably you should chech ISO 9001 or other to the real manufacturer, I guess. What are your criteria fro QSm developmemt and supplier selection, approval?
