Adblocker software and Cove advertisers

Prophet of Profit
I note a memo at the top of a Cove page (below an additional Google banner) which says:
This site is supported by advertisers. Please turn off your AdBlocker software whilst on this site.
Could we have a little better explanation, please?
<SCRIPT type=text/javascript><!--function log_out(){ ht = document.getElementsByTagName("html"); ht[0].style.filter = "progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.BasicImage(grayscale=1)"; if (confirm('Are you sure you want to log out?')) { return true; } else { ht[0].style.filter = ""; return false; }}//--></SCRIPT>

Marc is able to keep the site up because of the advertising links.
I understand about that part of it - my query is about "turning off adblockers"
Even with my adblockers on, I see the ads. What is the function the adblockers perform which hinders the ads?

On occasion, I have even clicked on ad links and no function seems disrupted. The cookies which "remember" us as members function, else we'd have to sign in on every visit.

Oops :oops:

I said to myself "Self, old Wes surely hasn't slipped by asking this silly question." But then I remembered...Wes is older than dirt, knows some good stories and a couple of card tricks, but this ad thing might have slipped by him. :biglaugh:

Wes,

Some time ago, When Marc first went down the path of Advertisment (I support him in this by the way) I stated that I could not see the ads in the right hand column of the Screen. We worked out, some time later, that the adblocker software in, I think, Windows Explorer was turned on and it prevented the ads from appearing because when I turned it off, the ads appeared. I assume this is what Marc is talking about.
