Advantages and disadvantages on IATF corporate scheme

I have a question related to corporate scheme, in the rules, it is clear on the advantages and benefits of moving to corporate scheme like having less auditor days, having the same Quality policy, standardization on QMS across the company, I can see that as a big plus, etc. but, I have not find the disadvantages. Some people says that if a location has a major NC in one site, all the sites will loose the certification. However, other people says that this is not true, that the sites handle their own NC's independently. Could somebody knows what the disadvantages are on having a corporate scheme?

My company has a corporate scheme for ISO 9001, but IATF should be similar, and possibly more restrictive. Some of the differences that you cite probably indicate differences between registrars. Our registrar does the following:
  • Minors - The offending site has to jump through the hoops to address it, but the auditor will pay particular attention to this area on the remaining sites
  • Majors - All sites, not just the offending site, must respond to the nonconformance, by immediately performing an internal audit of the area and responding with their findings as well as the corrective actions if necessary. If not addressed, or found at other sites, the entire corporate certificate for all locations is at risk.

The only direct risk as i can think of is if you are forced into a common QMS structure. That you need to adopt to a QMS that does not fit your sites glove. Also interactions & responsibilities between the sites need to be clear from all sides.

If one site in a corporate scheme enters the decertification process the CB shall make review on impact on all sites. Depending on the results it can in the end result in that you lose your certification due to another sites issues.

Will findings within a corporate scheme mean that countermeasures applied at one site must be applied to other scheme sites. Meaning a Major may result at the other sites if the same issue is found?

I think it depends if they see this as a systemic issue. I think having lessons learned is important across all parts of company.

My company had to set up a closed-loop system that communicated all audit nonconformances (minor and major) to every location on the common certificate. Each location had to perform an internal audit focused on those nonconformances and respond back whether a similar nonconformance was identified. If one was identified they had to apply a corrective action. The corrective action did not have to be identical if circumstances differed. The 3rd-party auditors would check the next 2-3 sites for that specific nonconformance.

Yes, if the same minor nonconformance was identified at multiple sites, it became a major.
