Air Gauging: Are the results affected by surface finish of the bore?

a customer of ours is purchasing air gages to verify a bore with tight tolerances. How much are the results affected by surface finish of the bore when air gauging is used?

I think it would adversely affect the measurement. R&R/MSA studies (emphasis on stability) should be looked at hard.

One variable to take into consideration is whether the gage is on the production floor and subject to more abuse and environmental concerns than if in a controlled lab.

Also look into how the variation of air pressure running through the lines in the plant are controlled and how they affect gage readings.
