Airborne Particle Counter Calibration - 5 microns particles aerosol

Hello all. I'm trying to perform airborne particle counter calibration, but I have found troubles to count 5 microns sized particles in the aerosol. I use a Model 256 Royco aerosol generator. No problem with particle size 0,3 microns to 3 microns. I have try to calibrate Met One and Climet counters with the same result. When I generate 5 microns particle aerosol the count is erratic, with no pattern, and with just a few particles counted. Any help welcomed. Regards MetroBioCen

Hello there!:bigwave:

I am certainly not an expert or anything; but I'll give it a try.

I guess I'm trying to figure things out here. Are you suggesting that you have an aerosol generator that is supposed to emit .3µ, .5µ, 3µ and 5µ particles.

You have two calibrated particle counters (a Met One and a Climet) and neither one of them are picking up the 5µ particles?

Now, is this when it is in free standing, testing the setup, or is it when you are challenging the HEPA filter?

If it is while you are challenging the filter, I would surmise the filter is removing the large particles. If it is free standing, then either there is an issue with the generator, or something is hinky with the two particle counters.

5µ particles should be fairly easy to pick up, if they are present

Hope that you came right with the particle generator.
Can you calibrate a Royco unit and a LasairII?
Can you give me a quotation?

Well, not in esence.
Y generate an aerosol with .3, .5, 1, 3, 5 microns particles, but each one alone.

No. I'm trying to calibrate the counter. In fact I'm trying to develop the Know-How for calibrate this counters in my enterprise.

When using .3, .5, 1, 3 I see the particles presence pattern in the osciloscope, but this do not happen when I use the 5 microns particles.
It's a headache :frust:

We have Royco and LasairII counters but we have not try to calibrate them yet. We will do it in future.
Quotation? Well.....Not now, maybe in future.:D

Cheers

Yesterday I found two details with my calibration procedure.

1.) I was using a Tygon transparent hose, so the enviroment light affected the measurement introducing white noise. I solved it covering the inlet with a dark cover.

2.) I used nytrogen instead of air. The noise reduced considerably.

Regards.

Still needing help on 5 microns particles aerosol.
