I'm not sure which forum to post this question in but I noticed while searching there were a few AMS questions here. We are looking at a job with a heat treat spec that calls out AMS and I was wondering if the MIL version is the same.
They were the same when the AMS was first written based on the MIL in 1998. The MIL was subsequently canceled in favor of the AMS in early 1999. The AMS is now at revision B and a revision C is in the works. Although I'm unfamiliar with the content since I don't have any heat treat experience, I am familiar with the transfer of MIL specs to AMS specs.
Here's a link to the history of the MIL, and here's a link to the history of the AMS. Although I don't know for certain, it's very likely that the AMS has diverged from the MIL. I recommend you purchase the AMS for your quotation.
Also note that AMS-H-6875 no longer applies to "finished parts". The specification states that if heat treating a "finished part" to follow instead AMS 2759 and its appropriate slash spec (AMS 2759/1, /2, etc. depending on the process).
