Appliance Manufacturing - Quality Assurance Mentor Wanted

Hello,

Firstly I would like to apologize if I made this topic in wrong SUBsection of correct section, I just came here and my question is very general. I would like to know if anyone of you has contacts and/or can point me (upon his/her permission) to the correct person who is Quality guru and highly experienced in the environment of Appliance manufacturing? I know Appliance is extensive term but I would describe the exact situation to him/her what is all about. What I am asking you is only if someone of you could suggest me who should I contact?

I have applied for ASQ mentoring program but I didn't get reply and I am being very afraid they accept only USA citizens. Yes, as beginner in Quality but Quality method (e.g. six sigma, lean management, critical to quality, poka yoke, etc.) isn't important, I would be willing to work on anything. NOTE: I am very aware you cannot recognize what the project is about but my only question is the one asked twice. I feel required to say why would I contact him/her - I am looking for so called online assistant (e.g. via email/skype) who would be willing to, perhaps even for small fee (although ASQ mentoring possibility is probably fee and so is ASME which I also tried), give me some tips what to do, where, with what, how often, what to note, what to measure, with what measuring equipment, what to be careful on, what to calculate, standards used, how often to check production line, parameters, graphs and many many more, at least to, if he/she would be wiling to, help me get started. Perhaps the person who I am looking for is already involved in such ASQ possibility.

Tried to research in ASQ's Quality Progress magazine. I had gotten very few ones but I couldn't recognized any quality specialist (at least not with email address) being focused on such environment.

Hopefully someone can point me to particular person if you have any contacts with people from either ASQ or whichever similar institution.

Where are YOU located now? City, state, Country? Mentoring is rarely done long distance.
I am in Europe but I am interested for online ''mentoring'' - via email/skype. I definitely not mean that Quality genious in this kind of environment (Appliance) would do the work for me. Definitely not. All I would need from him/her is help me with tips to get started and I would describe him/her exact project what it is all about, including which Appliance product. I decided to come here with hope someone of you (including you Wes) may have some contacts from people that might be experienced in this environment or even further point me to the third person. I would contact ASQ members (e.g. black belt members) with a hope that ''being in same team'' also means having ''friendship'' with other ASQ members who might know something more about Quality and Applicance manufacturing (also influences in client's side). However after checking very few (probably too few but I don't have more) Quality Progress magazines I failed to get any email contacts.

It's probably not likely that you'll find a person who's willing to commit to anything long-term and from a distance. There's also the fact that a single person isn't likely to have good answers for all of the different questions you might have.

The good news is that you've found a source here where practically any question you might have about product or service quality will be answered by not just one experience person, but several. Sometimes a question might have several different correct answers depending on a number of factors specific to one application or another. This means that you need to be able to evaluate the different possibilities and make a decision as to which one fits your particular needs. You can't expect one person to have all the answers.

There's no other resource like this one, and you should feel free to take advantage of it and ask questions. We're open 24-7. :bigwave:

Jim refrigerators manufactoring. I would then describe exact project privatelly (prefer not publically) to the third person (quality specialist in this kind of environment) to whoever I would be pointed.

I echo Jim Wynne's comments, especially about the value of the Cove as a 24/7 resource.

The appliances you mention are often called "white goods" in the trade here in the USA. It's a very competitive business and depends on close cooperation and collaboration with the retailers for success. To my knowledge, there hasn't been much new in the mechanical part of refrigerators, but a lot of variety in designing size and configuration inside the box. The latest trend seems to be a method for end users to configure and reconfigure the shelves and storage areas rapidly for storing odd-sized containers and trays, probably when one is entertaining large parties of people.

In terms of the quality considerations inherent in the white goods trade, I am aware a large number of complaints arise from the sealing method used by a manufacturer (usually magnetized gaskets on the door.) A major issue that arises with many manufacturers is with so-called French doors (two side-by-side doors with no center mullion) - when one door is pushed closed, air pressure forces the door on the other side to overcome the magnet hold and open slightly, causing an air leak. A second major complaint is the difficulty in getting at all parts of the inside to clean and sanitize on a regular basis.

It seems to me quality issues are universal regardless of the specific product or service:

  1. are the designers customer-centric?
  2. is sufficient FMEA done on a product in the design stage BEFORE beginning manufacture?
  3. when customer complaints arise, are they handled with empathy (NOT with impatience)?
Finally, is due attention given to working conditions for the employees actually producing the product or service?

Wes thank you for your time to type this reply but as much as I appreciate it, I am afraid you have completelly misunderstood the meaning of the post. Neither of the words have anything to do with my question. What I need is email address (contact) of quality guru in this kind of environment. I hoped people here have some contacts with other quality specialists. What you wrote has nothing to do with me, company or the project which I haven't described.
