Does anyone have a good definition for the following words used in the ISO 9000 family of standards: applicable methods, methods, and as needed?

Whereever is says 'as applicable' you are supposed to look at you products and processes and be ready to explain why something is applicable or why it is not. Traceability is one example. If you mold 2" toy clowns for kids to play with you will probably have limited traceability. You may have noticed Cosco's recent recall - they trace only by model number. Computer makers provide traceability by serial number. The drive manufacturers trace by individual serial numbers as well so often ther is traceability within the product as well.
