Approving myself as a Supplier - Should we be on our own ASL

We use a lot of suppliers and all are on the ASL. Issue is that we also make a few parts for our products that are assigned PNs and placed in inventory like all other parts. Should we be on our own ASL to demonstrate consistancy with our Supplier Control process?

Usually a supplier is another legal entity with whom you engage in a commercial transaction.

Is your company split into two legal entities, one of which buys stuff from the other? If not, it's all just manufacturing.

Why would anyone want to add additional terms, conditions, LTA, audits, visits and placed on an approved supplier list.... How much manpower you have!.

Think about it....

Maybe another way to think about this question is would you add yourself as a customer? Would you assess your customer satisfaction level etc?

I can't see any reason why you would

The intent of the requirement is that where you are not doing all the work you use organizations that have that capability. As it is you then you are, I hope, confident that you can do it. :)

In our facility we have a machine shop that does fabrication work making items that eventually get incorporated into our finished product which are electronic components. We have the machine shop listed as a supplier so we can monitor delivery and quality with our standard monitoring tools. Even though the machine shop is located within our walls, late deliveries and poor quality from the shop can affect our product delivery just like any other supplier.

It's fascinating to see companies that have a lot of money and make poor choices investing it. For example, having a supplier within the same walls. That means - issuing a Purchase Order, maintaining records for that company, placing them and monitoring their performance, customer satisfaction, audits, surveys......

Instead, those companies could easily place them as another process and avoid a lot of additional expenses in paper.

If it is for legal/Tax purposes that you need them separately - well... that's a different forum.

I am glad that you can make such broad judgments about a company given little or no knowledge about their inner workings, management, products, personnel etc.. I am insulted by your comment and do not feel the need to justify why we choose an internal supplier to a close minded fool.

He made a judgement based on the information given, that's what we all do in the Cove Forums.
