Are ISO/TS 16949:2009 requirements applicable to our non-automotive products?

Hi

I worked for an industry which produces multiple products in which couple of them for Automotive application and rest for industrial and domestic application. The management decided to implement the TS system throughout the organisation irrespective of the application to ensure same standard of practice, the certification body ON OUR REQUEST did audit as per TS but they gave 2 certificate 1. referring Auto products meeting TS requirements and 2. referring other application meeting 9k requirements.

(As per our consultants they stated all requirements stated in TS will be audited for the products and process applicable for auto products only)

you may refer the FAQ in IATF website clearly states the following

"Applicability/Scope
Question: Which Organizations can obtain Certification/Registration to ISO/TS 16949:2009?
Answer: Any Organization in the Automotive Supply Chain meeting the criteria below can obtain Certification to ISO/TS 16949:2009
1.
Scope 1.1 General - This Technical Specification, in conjunction with ISO 9001:2008, defines the quality management system requirements for the design and development, production and, when relevant, installation and service of automotive-related products. - This Technical Specification is applicable to sites of the organization where production and/or service parts specified by the customer are manufactured.
2.
"Automotive" shall be understood as including the following: - Cars, Trucks (Light, Medium and Heavy), Buses, Motorcycles
3.
"Automotive" shall be understood to exclude the following: - Industrial, Agricultural, Off-Highway (Mining, Forestry, Construction, etc.)...."

button, so moderators can act. In this case, there was nothing offensive nor inappropriate. When anyone makes questionable comments about a subject they show limited knowledge of, it is a fair question to inquire if they work in the industry.

We just came out of TS16949 recertification audit-Zero nonconformance. Hyundai and Nissan were our customers but since I read someplace in this forums that JAMA subscibes (or helped put this TS16949 together) to this standard, we went ahead and develop the PPAP documents for these 2 customers. We received e-mails from Hyundai and Nissan that they do not issue customer score cards. These documents were audited to the TS16949 standards with excellent results. This forum has been my bible second to the Holy Bible. This is indeed a lighthouse for me.

In the company I work for we´re looking for ISO/TS 16949 certification for our automotive products, but also ISO 9001 for the non automotive.
We have all our documentation established for both QMS, but in the Quality Manual is clearly stated the scope for each QMS.

I agree! There is nothing personal here. This is not an inappropriate question. Otherwise Marc and moderators would've intervened. Only ISO9001:2008 is applicable to non-automotive products. I would to take the opportunity to thank the moderators and contributors for helping me guide my organization to achieve that perfect score in the ISO-TS16949 re-certification audit. It was a very rigorous audit but the hard work paid off. This website is indeed a lighthouse to guide in the implementation of industry required certificates. Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

The TS 16949 requirements are applicable to all sectors of industry.They are really TQM requirements.It is sad that some auditors donot subscribe to this view.
