Re: Are surveys and interviews considered as an objective measurement?

I can say only can be.
Being objective would mean a checklist of structured evaluation(s).
I am sure that serveys & interviews have objectives defined, but not always, and clearly not completely always.
Will these objective be efectively used is another question.
In some cases serveys might be the only validation data.

going :topic:
Is any audit completely objective?
Is a ploiceman totaly objective?

Please explain your answer.
If you mean objective evidences, then yes, they can be considered.
I recollect one of our famous 2nd party auditor, who had his favourite line all along the report and non-conformance statement, which used to begin or end with ...
"As stated by the responsible officer of .... "

Maybe. If one person has a bad attitude about what is going on, it may just be one person's bad attitude. If multiple people all complain about the same thing, chances are it is a systemic problem.

It depends on the topics covered by the survey, how well it is designed and tested, and how well it is executed (e.g., sample selection).

Very often surveys are very subjective, asking for people's opinions (which may have no correlation at all to reality).

I tell my clients that surveys are usually in the "better than nothing" category. It is hard to get objective evidence about your customers perception of you in a survey. Usually only a very small percentage of them are returned and often those returned are because of a complaint the returnees have. Usually obtaining your customers perception of you requires more than a survey. There may be exceptions to this, but they are rarely seen. Informal interviews during normal conversation can give you more information and end up being more objective. I think that if you truly want an objective aqnswer to this question it should be separated into trwo separate questions. The reason I say that is, as you can see, I have different opions for both surveys and interviews.

I agree. Most people do not like surveys. I receive them all the time (hotel, car dealer, restaurants, etc,) and often do not bother to complete them.

The best way to get objective and meaningful feedback is face-to-face meetings with the folks that actually use the product or service. People in sales or customer service are in the best position to do this.

To illustrate the absurdity of posing this as a binary decision, please answer the following question:

Have you stopped beating your wife?

[ ] Yes
[ ] No

Jim, this just cracked me up! Thanks for the humor and your point.

:applause:Your response reminded me though that surveys can be an excellent tool if the questions are carefully crafted to NOT elicit a desired answer. Too often the questions are phrased in such a way (as was your example) to elicit a response biased by the surveyor. This may be one reason so many polls are virtually worthless regardless of sample size or +/- point estimate spread.
