Are zero defect sampling plans relevant to AS9120B Distributor

Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice. I have recently joined a company as their quality manager, this is a newish role for me. My first challenge was to achieve certification to AS9120B which included writing all the procedures and updating the quality manual etc. Because of my inexperience to the standard we brought a consult on board. He suggest we require a zero defect sampling plan for inspection of incoming stock. However i have been advised from other professionals that this isn't a requirement for distributors. Is any one able to advise and perhaps send me some links of where to find this information? We want to be fully compliant but we don't want to add additional measures just for the sake of adding them unless they add value. All the sampling plan information i find appears more relevant to manufacturer's rather than component distributors.

Thanks

I don't know how AS9120 compares to AS9100. AS9100 requires verification of purchased product. Sampling plans can be used for any attribute inspection. Does AS9120 require verification of purchased product? If it does, how do you intend to meet the requirement? 100% inspection?

The standard does not require that you do a sampling plan - furthermore,

8.1
h. establishing the controls needed to prevent the delivery of nonconforming products and services to the customer.

NOTE: One method to achieve operational planning and control can be through using integrated phased processes.

As appropriate to the organization, customer requirements, and products and services, the organization shall plan and manage product and service provision in a structured and controlled manner including scheduled events performed in a planned sequence to meet requirements at acceptable risk, within resource and schedule constraints.

Since you were not specific on the type of product and the amount - it is difficult to provide additional guidance but...

large warehouse do a sampling plan for incoming and small distributor flow that requirements to the OEM.

9120 requires the same thing as 9100: "...ensuring that when sampling is used as a means of product acceptance, the sampling plan is justified on the basis of recognized statistical principles and appropriate for use."

C=0 is not required.

Howste is right, C=0 sampling is not required by the AS9100/9120 standards.

However, many aerospace customers, government and non-government alike, do require any sampling plan used to be C=0.
