AS 9100 Registrar Audits: Failure Modes

Trusted Information Resource
Please provide your comments on the following finding by an AIEA lead auditor.

"The auditor does not include enough information in the checklist to confirm the scope of the audit and this makes it difficult to determine if the full requirement of the clause was audited."

My problem with this finding is that the AIEA lead auditor did not provide any objective evidence to support his finding. The finding statement seems like an opinion rather than a statement in fact.

I appreciate any comments.

Thanks,

Danny

CARI,

Your nice AS auditor is telling you in finding number 8 that you are not just not meeting AS9100 and internal procedure requirements but more than likely your company is also in violation of federal and state OSHA requirements related to labeling of containers to state contents and MSDS identifiers.

Look at the finding one more time: “#8 - Containers of cleaners, lubricants and wastes throughout the facility are not marked. 7.5.5 & our internal procedure for Preservation of Product. (He observed numerous containers such as coffee cans, spray bottles, paper coffee cups, etc. without identification.)”

If you have an environmental, health and safety person at your facility he/she need to address this one PDQ. If you don't, your management must take action.

#7 - There was no audit evidence of shelf life control. 7.5.5e
(He found an expired bottle of Loc-Tite in our assembly room.)

First of all, I didn't know Loctite expires...we'll have to look into that one!

We had 5 findings:
#1 Purchase orders were placed at 2 calibration labs that are not on the approved supplier list. (7.4.1a) (Action: We added the ASL to our Internal Audit schedule.)

#2 CAR #5 and CAR #6 (internal CARs) root cause and corrective action does not address the documented nonconformance. (8.5.2) (Action: We readdressed the CARs and added CAR review to our managment meeting.)

#3 Box of parts on the receiving bench with no paperwork and not identified as required. Parts on shop floor not appropriately identified. (7.5.3) (The president and owner was responsible for this one.)

#4 Several tools and gages are either not in the calibration system or have lost their traceability to a known standard. (7.6) (Employee tools that the employees had purchased and neglected to turn in to QA.)

#5 Several documents reviewed were not properly completed. A hand written amendment was not initialed and dated as required. (4.2.3) (Our internal purchase requisition form had blanks on it that were not filled in by the employees.)

Does anyone know the shelf life of Loctite? I know that it is identified on the bottle...but at $70 for 1-1/2 oz I want to make sure I get a "fresh" bottle.
