AS 9100 Scope for Repair Station with PMA approval

Hello!

I work for an FAA repair station. We also perform special processing for OEM customers. We also have PMA. Historically we have excluded all design clauses from AS 9100 certification. We have been going through some company training recently with outside consultant and he thinks our PMA status means we need to include 8.3. Anyone else been through this?

Aren't PMAs design or production? Is your PMA for production only - or does it state design?

Super Simple! It is a "Permissible Exclusion" in the Standard.

You can "Build To Print" or "Build To Part (using a known good part for a Sample Part or under Owner Fabrication Provision)" and not have to include all of 8.3 unless you are doing design however, I would have a statement in your AS QM stating something like:

"8.3 DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT"
"XXXXXX DOES NOT PERFORM ANY PRODUCT OR TOOLING DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF PRODUCTS AND SERVICES. XXXXXX DOES NOT HAVE THE CAPABILITY FOR DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT, IT IS NOT REGULATORY OR CONTRACTUALLY REQUIRED, AND DOES NOT FIT THE INTENDED LONG-TERM BUSINESS PLAN OF THE COMPANY AT THIS TIME."

We were AS9100 but now we hold an AS9110, have an FAR Part 145 along with an EASA 145 approvals and have had for many years.
