We have been using an outside lab and they sent us a copy of their systems certification for AS7101 for materials Testing. How does this compare to17025 and.or A2LA?

According to A2LA:

The SAE AS7101 requirements are essentially the elements of ISO/IEC 17025 plus an assortment of technical requirements for the significant test technologies covered by the MTLs – namely chemical, mechanical, metallography and microhardness, hardness, corrosion, fastener testing (plus mechanical testing specimen preparation), differential thermal analysis, and X-ray diffraction. (Please note that heat treating will not be included under this accreditation.)

Ralph, a quick web search shows AS7101 as an SAE document. I'm running across at least 1 customer of ours who has an announcement that their lab is certified to both ISO 17025 and SAE AS7101. A second hit ties AS7101 into NADCAP certification. So, related to aerospace, and at a quick glance would appear to address issues similar to ISO 17025. I don't know if the automotive industry would/will accept AS7101 instead of ISO 17025. If I ran a testing lab, I'd probably prefer to be one or the other, not both.

Don't you just love it when life gets more complicated?

Hey, thanks for the info Jim and Kevin.
Yes, "it's always somethin', if it ain't one thing it's another"
I thought doing the ISO and TS stuff was supposed to simplify things:bonk:
Amazing how some of these new esoteric numbers crop up.

One point to look at, if the AS7101 is a registration then that means it does not have the rigor of an assessment to ANS/ISO/IEC 17025. If in fact NADCAP is involved, that is an industry program.

Outside of aerospace, I would suggest that ANS/ISO/IEC 17025 is the more desired Standard.

Oh, and never confuse ANS/ISO/IEC 17025 with A2LA.....they are NOT the same.....
