AS9100 D 8.3.4.1 a - Parameters to be recorded" - What is this asking for?

Greetings,

A little background. I work at a small company that that makes parts to print for aerospace and it's own line of hoppers, hopper lids, and trash cans. We provide spun metal products. I know that I am making a mountain out of a mole hill, but I am setting up our processes across the board to meet AS9100 D. Our own parts will be covered by the ISO portion which we are design responsible. So, I am making our processes meet the AS9100 spec so in the future if we have to design any product for aerospace, our system is already set-up. I know, more work that needs to be done...

I have a question about the requirements listed in 8.3.4.1.a of AS9100 D. I am stuck on "parameters to be recorded". What is this asking for?

When you are testing a prototype, aiming at V&V of the product design, the parameters of the test to demonstrate acceptability of the product. For example, if you are performing a destructive testing to show that the wire can withstand a minimum of 25,000 lbs(f) before yielding, or the device can be cycled 15,000 times before any cracks are visible, or a landing gear can be lowered in less than 6 seconds, etc...

" 8.3.4.1 When tests are necessary for verification and validation, these tests shall be planned, controlled, reviewed, and documented to ensure and prove the following:

a. test plans or specifications identify the test item being tested and the resources being used, define test objectives and conditions, parameters to be recorded and relevant acceptance criteria; "

bottom line - if test are necessary - you need to define how, when, what and range of what is acceptable

Example - thickness of material - .125 +/- .005 so the parameters are .120 - .130.
