Per the standard in 8.5.1.1, "Storage requirements shall be defined for production equipment or tooling in storage including any necessary periodic preservation or condition checks".

Does fixturing that that holds the part while machining, consider "production equipment"?

My own, non AS educated opinion is, it depends. Can it go bad in storage? If so, maybe you want to make sure it's preserved. I am generally thinking of injection molds which typically go thru a cleaning and storage spray prior to be put away.

As Golfman states it depends. Simple rule of thumb would be is it product related if so then check it. If the fixture was damaged or not set in the right way would it affect the machining, if it was contaminated or corroded would that have an effect. The other one is if it went for a walk on its own and nobody had seen it for a long time would it cause problems to make a new one and what would the risk to production and product be with a new fixture, would you need to complete testing or a new FAIR before production.
