AS9102 - How many pieces need to go on the First Article paperwork?

Hello Members! Happy First day of Spring!
I have a question about filling out the AS9102 First article inspection form.
I am just wondering if there is a required amount of parts that need to be on the form. For example: I am shipping 10 pieces for the first article, but normally only put 5 serial numbers on the paperwork. Is there a problem with doing this, Is this up to the customer, Or is the requirement at least 1 piece? Please advise -Thank You!

AS9102, if used as a requirement for First Article Inspection, just needs one piece. Anything inspected beyond that would be sampling. It would be a good idea, however, to do 100% inspection until the process is proven stable, but you only need to convince your customer that your process can produce a part that meets engineering conformance with one piece.

When the first part doesn't fully meet the engineering requirements, then it's not complete. A second piece would be used, after the process is changed, to show that the second piece meets the remaining engineering requirements that were previously nonconforming.

One piece is a minimum, but when FAI inspection results yield measurements on or near spec or drawing limits, further redundant inspection may be required. This is clearly stated in the standard.

Please provide objective evidence or paragraph where this is stated...

because I couldn't find it in my AS9102:confused:

Provide objective evidence? I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that an opening meeting had taken place. :)

I was referring to 9103 "Variation management in Key Characteristics". See references.

That's fine. If you have a number of measurements on the first and only piece that are right on the edge of being out of tolerance, you can make your own choice if you think that's good enough.
