Assessment / Audit / Survey for Indirect Suppliers or Material

#1
Hi,

I would like to have some tip / support regarding how to perform assessments / audits for indirect suppliers or material?

It would also be helpful if someone has the possibility to share a Assessment / Audit / Survey template for indirects suppliers or material.

Best regards/ Tobias

Because "indirect" can be interpreted differently across industries, could you please provide a bit more information in terms of a description for clarification? Or maybe an example would be helpful. Is the supplier "indirect" because the product/service does not come into contact with the finished product? Help us understand....

My question is regarding indirect external suppliers that can affect the product, but not directly. For example machine suppliers, gage suppliers, laboratories, production line suppliers, IT , consultants etc.

No matter what you purchase, you have to have criteria for. The question is, how do you determine what your criteria (aka "requirements") are. This makes a "standard" form or template for all the possible difficult other than for some basics.

For example, think about each of the items/services you listed:

  1. Machine suppliers
  2. Gage suppliers
  3. Test laboratories
  4. Production line suppliers
  5. IT Services
  6. Consultants

Each is quite different so (again, other than basics such as "Does the company have a quality system?") a form is difficult to address all the specifics.

Let's say you are hiring an ISO 9001 consultant. What are your criteria going to be? Or, let's say you need a consultant to help you with a process problem - How do you determine what criteria is necessary (especially knowing a company typically has many processes, each of which requires different criteria)?

So - First you have to determine what your specific criteria is (what your specific requirements are). When you have done that, you have what you need to evaluate, audit or survey the supplier.

Your question in this discussion thread is a bit broad to give you a better answer.
