Attribute Gage R&R analysis - Automated test system

We have an automated test system that measures pass/fail criteria in a sequential way on electronic board assemblies.

We want to evaluate and validate this new software and test station now, using gauge r&r. As this project is still in the development phase, we're not able to select good or bad parts (as it is unknown yet).
The system also measures to many parameters (pass/fail) to have a range of samples for every measurement taken.

How should we organize the gauge r&r on such a kind of test equipment?

Has anybody some experience on doing gauge r&r on JTAG stations?

Make 5 to 10 known bad units, then have it sort 50 total parts with 40 known good and see how many it can find. Page 125 of the MSA 3rd ed.

You could swap out the resistors or caps with the wrong ones and see if it finds them. At least that is what I would do. That way when it test the circuit it would return the wrong values. What matters is that the test finds bad units.

But since you do not have testing units yet, maybe you can validate with a bench test. You will not be able to do a GR&R until you have units.

I'm currently close to issue an attribute GRR for an automated pass/fail measurement (will be force and distance).

Did someone has a rational about how many parts we have to assess? as the machine is considered as 1 appraiser and we will do only 1 trial, do we have to take, let's say 60 parts minimum?

P.S: in minitab 16 they are mentioning:
"It is good practice to have a fairly balanced mix of Good and Bad items. Your data shows that you have 50% Good items and 50% Bad items. If you have a small percentage of items of one type, you reduce your ability to assess how well the appraisers rate that type of item."

So I assume in any cases it's better to have close to 50/50 of good/bad pieces

What can be really challenging on an attribute R & R is that you need pieces that are barely good and barely bad to determine if your measurement system is adequate enough to discriminate between them. Knowing that your system will fail parts that are out a "mile" doesn't really give you the confidence you need.

In order to select samples are "barely good or barely bad" you probably should not use the attribute gage you are evaluating, but need to use a variable measurement device with good R & R.

For items that require a visual inspection only you may need to use samples with a strong consensus that they are good or bad.

In my case it is almost impossible to define devices which are barely good or bad.
The machine is testing a pass / fail on a force specifications, which is a result of an assembly of different plastic parts, so no way. Moreover some tests are destructive.
