You can include following elements while auditing MR (QMS as a process):

1. Internal audits, its NC closure, effectiveness verification of last NCs (8.2.2, 8.2.2.4, etc.)
2. Management Review process (5.6)
3. Control Of documents (4.2.3)
4. Control of Records (4.2.4)
5. Analysis of data (8.4),
6. Customer requirements
7. Customer satisfaction
etc.

You should use process approach to audit the QMS process (auditing Input, output, resources required , skills required, effectiveness , efficiency of the process).

This is what we do....I hope this helps..

Thanks,
Amit

thanks for your reply.

don't you think all these activities are audited in Management review annually ?

If the auditor asked for it to be on the schedule, then they are asking the wrong thing - but it's a reasonable question to ask if it's phrased as "how do you ensure you audit these activities, perhaps in other audits?" To expect to see it on the schedule may be ONE way of doing it, it can be done - as is suggested above, in a process - so is it done somehow?
all related activities to QMS are audited/reviewed by an Individual other then then MR. that report is generated quarterly.

The purpose of management review isn't an audit. The results of the audit(s) are considered as part of management review. How is your internal audit programme set up today? It would help if you'd share that with us.

First of all, you shall define the processes of your QMS and then assure that they are audited according to 8.2.2 clause of ISO 9001.
You shall have a documented procedure for this purpose. You also mentioned ISO 14001. Also in that case you shall have a plan that you could integrate with QMS.

maxnomi,

Your auditor may have seen evidence of some system dysfunction to ask this question.

The Management Rep's activities are usually an integral part of processes within your organization's process-based management system.

Therefore, by auditing the processes planned, designed, operated, controlled, monitored, reviewed and improved by your organization you are also auditing many of the Management Rep's activities.

Lastly, you may want to take a look at the relationship between the Management Rep and his or her colleagues in top management.

Specifically you'd expect to see evidence of top management listening to his or her recommendations when it comes to engaging employees in their development, use and improvement of their management system and in the management reviews resulting in the necessary improvements.

Again, this comes from collecting and evaluating evidence of organizational effectiveness.

In a process-based (or team-based) management system it can be detrimental to single-out a department or individual as the subject of an audit.

Management Review is a review by top management to ensure continuing suitability, adequacy and effectiveness of Quality management system. Where necessary decisions(5.6.3) are taken such as provision of resources to make the the QMS more effective .
Its not an audit....
Audits are taken to review effectiveness & efficiency of the processes (i.e. Defined within your Quality Management System). Any review of data / process / interviews can't be called as an audit.

Amit

The dictionary definition of "audit" is much broader. It includes those who take a college course but not for college credit. It includes reviews.

In a circuit board house, the term audit is often used when confirming all parts for a kit are present and accounted for.

Let's not get overly narrow about that term here.

Hi Maxnomi
Though the words Management Activities are not physically in the standard, most of the auditor I have dealt with use this term. Their defination was that they were wanting us to show all the "activities" completed by our Management to ensure our processes and products met customer and ISO standards so the list of items we went over was long. Such as Management Review, Resources Management, Quality Management, Customer Satisifaction Reviews, Managements Internal Audits etc.
