Auditing Clause 5 - Leadership in ISO9001:2015

Hello!

I have been tasked with implementing ISO9001:2015 by next May. I'm trying to put together an Internal Audit program, and I'm having difficulty with a few of the clauses, especially Clause 5 - Leadership. How on earth do we audit this?

I'm pretty new to this stuff, so please be kind.

Maybe I should clarify my question. There are statements such as "ensuring the integration of the QMS requirements into the orgs. business processes".
"Promoting the use of the process approach and risk-based thinking".

These are very broad statements, it would be very difficult to audit these items, as some of them encompass the entire QMS.

Would we be required to audit top management to verify that they are "Ensuring and promoting"?

Again, I am new to this...forgive the ignorance. :confused:

Actually you are a little ahead of yourself in the process because you first must address the requirements and limit the organizations exposure to the broad wording of ISO 9001:2015. One example of a broad wording is business processes. We have added the following note to this section of our Quality Manual to contain this requirement to strictly the QMS:

Note: “Business processes” such as accounting, employee benefits management and legal activities are out of scope of the quality management system.

Having now limited the scope of 5.1 you now only need to address the remaining requirements assigned to management in the following areas:

a) taking accountability for the effectiveness of the management system;
b) ensuring that the quality policy is communicated understood and applied;
c) communicating the importance of quality system and conforming to the systems requirements;
d) ensuring that the quality system achieves its intended results;
e) engaging, directing and supporting persons to contribute to the effectiveness of the quality system;
f) promoting continual improvement;
