Auditing various industries reference book recommendations wanted

Hi.

I am looking for materials/books, etc to help me conducting audit.

The material that i need is something that tells me the "exact process" involve in the industry.

For example, if I have to audit construction site - what is really required, or critical that I need to check, as far as clause 7 is concern. If I want to audit logistic activities, what are the activities involve as a "core process", pertaining to clause 7.

Is there such a book, maybe from ASQ or other publishers?

I thought ISO 19011 - Guidelines for quality and/or environmental management systems auditing, is the only document you need. A good understanding of these principles coupled with some practical experiences would enable you to see the 'trees' in most jungle.

However, there is no substitute for knowledge of the industry (including regulatory requirements) which would enable one to carry out a meaningful and in depth audit.

A process-approach audit is worried about any process, independent of the industry. So you don´t need to know what are the "best" processes in each different industry (and a book of this kind would really not exist because each industry will have it´s particular processes which are "best" to them).

FOr the best, IMO, book on auditinf using the process approach, see "ISO 9000: 2000 Auditing Using the Process Approach", by David Hoyle.

If you want to know the details for a particular industry you would need to study the standards/regulations for that industry, as well as the policies & procedures for the specific organization you are going to audit.

That's why accreditation rules cover experience for auditors on audited (EA) codes.

There isn't a book or some written reference for all or a wide range of industry sector processes. I think, if there were something like that, it would probably require thousands of pages, chapters, issues etc...

And, as far as I have encountered, reading standards mostly makes no use for learning sector specific processes, because, standards tend not to define specific manufacture processes in order to avoid limitting technical development.

So, (I think) the best book, manual, document, reference etc. would be some consultant's database for that purpose. But, I don't know if a consultant would give his/her database.
