We were trying to decide if they should continue on that path so that they can go ahead and get certified, or modify our strategy to meet 2015 with the risk of certification being delayed. Thoughts?

Don't worry about 2015 until the ink is dry.

Agreed - I have just purchased the draft copy and working through just for a taster of things to come - but taking nothing for granted until the official final version.

The only thing already decided is an agreement between ISO/CASCO and IAF about the transition period of three years after publication. That means if the revised standard will be published September 15, 2015 no certificate according ISO 9001:2008 shall exist after September 14, 2018.

IAF is working currently to prepare a transition document which will be probably finished until end of this year. One of the ideas discussed is to allow new certications according the old standard during the first year after publication but these certificates will not be valid for a complete 3 years cycle but only until the end of the transition period.
