Automotive Core Tools - Developing PPAP, PFMEA and Control Plan Work Instructions

Doug

I am in the process of designing automotive core tool work instructions for new quality engineers fresh out of college. I already have a MSA procedure developed but am looking for expert advise in developing PPAP, PFMEA and Control Plan work instructions.

Automotive Core Tool books have to broad a scope for beginners. I have many new quality engineers in my organization. They don't have a clue!

I would appreciate some guidance!
Thanks for your help! :D

Hello Doug,

Work instructions for Core Tools cannot replace good training in these tools.
Conduct (or have someone conduct) Core Tools training first. Then, if you wish, prepare some job aids (work instructions, memory joggers) for your new quality engineers. If you do not do the training first, your work instructions need to be much more specific and detailed.

Stijloor.

I agree with Stijloor and Howard. If you already have a PPAP/APQP process, you should document what you're doing, if what you're doing is efficacious. Writing work instructions presents a good opportunity to review the process and improve it. The APQP process and building a PPAP package as its output require knowledge and experience that neophytes don't have, and just having work instructions won't help much, and even training (although necessary) won't help with the experience element.
