Well essentially the product they seemed most interested in is from a completely different sector to them so not likely to be considered a competitor otherwise I would've knocked it on the head (although with hindsight I wish I had anyway).
I have been back to my direct quality contact (different person to the audit guy but he was actually involved in the audit) and explained several points, including the cost implications and referencing the original contract with regard to tool storage and maintenance.
Hopefully I've been diplomatic enough but gotten my point across. Thanks to all who've contributed to this thread - it really has been constructive.
