Looking into the regulation itself looks a sensible start.
Cheers!

Record retention requirements are based on the needs of your company, requirements of the customer or applicable regulatory requirements for the product being manufactured and there is usually not a magic number that can be given. AS9100 based companies need to develop a good system to flow down customer record retention requirements which could change from order to order for the same customer.

As stated by others, it depends on the regulation. For example Reg (EC) 1702/2003 tends to refer to 6 years. Some of my customers extend this to life of the product in service. Only you know what regs you're working to and what customers you're servicing.

Most large aircraft companies will listen to their attorneys in implementing the record retention policy. Those attorneys will use the guidelines established by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act or SOX. This act requires the retention of accounting records for 7 years +.

Most large companies have gone to 10 years in aerospace but you most read the Purchase Order or related quality documentation flow down to you for guidance. Some companies - depend on the product will required from 10 years to 40 plus life of products and some FAA records for 100 years.

Remember that what ever the customer tells you - flow it down to your sub tiers (otherwise you become liable or responsible for those records).

Note: A certificate of Conformance is only one paper of all the records that your suppliers must retain. I.E. training, calibration, chemical used, shop travelers, inspection records.....
