Hello

How do you interpret "Overload" in IEC 60601-1 chapter 15.4.3.3 ?

1) As excessive charging current ?
2) As excessive current consumption of the downstream circuit ?
3) As excessive charging time, as defined in IEC 62133-2 chapter 7.3.6 ?

Thanks ;-)

15.4.3.3 is "overcharge" not overload. Typically this is due to failure of the charging circuit but can also be a consideration for non-rechargeable cells that are connected into circuits that are powered independently, and faults in the circuit could lead to reverse charging. The need for and type of protection against overcharging varies depending on type of battery.

FYI, the French version uses the term "surcharge" which translates to either "overcharge" or "overload", so my mistake. The English version is less ambiguous ;-)
