Birthdays
I'm working on my eight decade. Sad to say, there are probably fewer ahead of me than behind me. I'm still reeling from the death of my good friend Akio Miura, an ASQ friendship dating back to 1990. I was looking forward to our "sharing" of birth dates again this year.
I am, however, in relatively good health for ANY age - thanks to Medicare and the superior health system in the area where I live. I still love giving platform presentations and seminars. For fun, I guide a storytelling guild that meets every month and whose members have performed throughout North America.
Akio was a lovable curmudgeon to the end. I, on the other hand, have mellowed some in my later years. In the 90s and early 2000s, Akio and I were those who went against St. Paul's dictum - We did NOT suffer fools gladly. We often ridiculed the Kwality Kops and mission creepers who pontificated from ignorance in the pages of Quality Progress or in the ASQ discussion forums.
I was sorry I could never convince Akio to join the Cove to contribute some of his vast knowledge on all things to do with quality. Most especially, I wished for his first hand debunking of the myth of Japanese superiority in quality as he signaled failures often quashed from public view by the complicity of Japanese media with the powerhouse industrial corporations.
St. Paul wrote:
2 Corinthians 11:19 (
KJV), reads "For ye suffer fools gladly, seeing ye yourselves are wise."
