Benefits of Improving Lead Time on Closing Supplier Corrective Action Requests

Hi, we are just thinking about next year plan in quality area. One area to improve is to improve lead time to close off SCARs. So what is the benefit to improve SCAR lead time. My answer is:
1. By reducing lead time, it also will improve lead time to dispose rejected goods, so it will reduce reject warehouse size.
2. By reducing lead time, we will need to communicate with supplier more often and effeciently, so supplier and we (customer) will be working more closely as a partner. Solved issue in time or ASAP. In the mean time supplier quality will be improved. In the long term, supplier rejects and customer compliants will be reduced by shortening SCARs lead time.
3.By reducing SCARs lead time, supplier rejects and customer rejects will be reduced, so cost of poor quality will be reduced
4.By reducing SCARs, all the cost relating to repair/rework will be debited from Supplier's account in time manner, total quality cost will be reduced.

Another point from me - speedy SCAR closure will help reduce defective parts in supply chain pipeline.

But on another note, pls be careful with this measurement as it could be mistook with poor root cause investigation.

Thank you Ajit. I agree it will have issue of mistaken on taking incorrect root cause. We will be aware by speed up closing SCARs. In another hand if supplier doesn't find correct root cause, all the relevant correct action and preventative action will be wrong/ineffective. So that result will be observed in our end (customer end) (still have more rejects in customer end). Better senireo is lright root cause found-right/effective and efficient corrective/preventative actions are taken-lead time to close SCAR reduced-rejects reduced-cost saved-customer happy.
So what is good way to close SCAR properly and efficiently.
a. More open communication with supplier
b. Establish SCAR monioring system
c. Any issue feedback and discuss with supplier in timely manner
d. Using visual communication method with supplier (picture, video)
e.Supplier audit

My opinion would be if management can determine what the most significant and/or repeated issues are that require supplier corrective action, then those corrective actions should be written and resources applied as they are able. The incoming/receiving nonconforming material metric can then be used to determine effective implimentation of the SCAR, (i.e. no NCR's received over the next ??? days).

I would not measure lead-time to completion of SCARS. This measure would have no impact on effectiveness, and in fact will more likely have a negative impact on effectiveness. Keep the focus on your Incoming/Receiving NCR metric and on reducing those NCR's and let the SCARS take as long as they need to.
