What do you find is the best type of grease for vex gears. Is it graphite powder, white lithium grease, WD - 40 etc.

Re: Best Type of Grease for Vex Plastic Gears?

I didn't know what a vex gear was until this afternoon.

There is a whole vex forum online...you might get some "old hand" advice there that might not be available on the Cove...

Hi Markpinto,

As far as I could see most Vex plastic gears are made of Acetal (POM). Acetal is inherently a low-friction plastic and is considered very suitable for gear applications.

If, however, you positively require lubrication, this should not be an issue. Acetal is generally quite chemically inert and a wide range of lubricants is likely to be suitable. I think the ones you mentioned will be all right, though personally I wouldn't use WD-40 because it's less likely to stay where you want it (and I also hate its smell :)). You could also use petroleum jelly.
