Re: Big changes for Randy

Man-oh-man when you think life has smoothed out a bit you hit some BIG bumps. Not bad, just BIG

As I type this Judi is bringing home our 16, soon to be 17 year old grandson from Missouri. His dad has just taken a a job outside Albany, NY and Zach didn't want to go, so Nan and Pop volunteered. Not unwelcome at all. This actually helps relieve me of worring about Judi being alone as much as she is when I'm on the road. He's more than welcome and I'll get some free labor in the yard to boot. He's our 1st and lived with us from the time he was born until he was 6 when the daughter remarried. He grew up on my knee.

OK, the real BIGGY that I'll share with my friends.

Years ago when I was a cop I didn't practice proper discretion and I didn't conduct myself in a proper manner in my private life. My actions and lack of proper conduct resulted in a divorce from my 1st wife after 7 years of marriage. Un-confirmed until about 8 days ago one of my liasons resulted in a child. I questioned this at the time (1976-77) but was assured that I was not the responsible party numerous time so I didn't give it a second thought, never mentioned it to Judi (we married in '81 so the incident pre-dates our knowing each other by 3 years). I just had confirmed, and have met at my home, my nearly 29 year old son and his wife. There is absolutely no doubt. To make a long story short his "parents" have both passed away and he has suspected something himself for years and finally confirmed his suspicions just a few days ago. To say he had a rough time growing up would be an understatement. He wanted a family that loved him and he looked for it. Believe me when I say that he has found more than he bargained for with the Daily Clan. The word has been passed to my family, Judi's family and now to all my friends...there is a little Randy out there...BTW, his name is in fact Randall (Randy).

Oh, yeah, on top of all this I no longer have 9 grandchildren, I now have 14!

There is much more to the story of course, but this is the important stuff.
Just wanted to revisit this thread to see how everything is going for Randy.

Re: Big changes for Randy

Things are pretty cool. He, Leanne and their respective families have bonded better than I could have imagined and spent part of the summer together in Dallas. Thanksgiving we're going to have Randy's family and Leanne's at the house over the holiday (7 grandkids...whew).

Leanne is the daughter that I had from my 1st marriage. She lives in Tulsa where her husband is a Captain on the PD. She and Randy are about 4 years apart in age (she's older).

Randy and Chrissy have decided to do te name change thing. I told him it wasn't necessary, but his reasoning is that the other family never accepted or took care of him and there is no real bond. Randy was basically tossed to the streets when he was 5 or 6 and friends took him in. Another long story,

Thanks for asking.

Re: Big changes for Randy

This Thread has been laying dormant a bit but I thought I'd go ahead and use it because the subject of this post is pretty much in line.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree........

Chip off the old block..............

Like father like son..............

All pretty common phrases when talking about fathers and sons....Well my boy is OK, but my dad...

OK, dad passed away in 1997 because of Agent Orange..this is a done deal

After dad passed away mom told us a story about dad...He was career Air Force and early in his career he and mom were in different parts of the country, dad in New York and mom in Indiana. Apparently dad strayed into another pasture, married a lady and had a daughter who was born in 1952 (I was born in 1951. Mom and dad had been married more than a year before I was born so y'all don't need to count) OK, dad got caught and tossed in a NY hoosegow and old G'Pa Daily bailed him out and the marriage was annulled....All of this was kept secret from us until 1997. Contact with everyone was lost in the mid '50s so essentually they didn't exist and neither did we.

After mom told us the story about us having a half-sister two of my sisters started a hunt which had all kinds of dead ends, twists and turns...Bottom line my sisters Pam and Sandy met up with and had lunch with Starr Daily yesterday. It was the 1st time anyone had seen anyone. All Starr was ever aware of was that her dad was Robert Daily and that he had a son...me (I was the 1st and my closest sibling, Pam, was born in 1953)

I have a new, soon to be 57 year old sister! I also have some new nieces, nephews and a bunch of grandnieces & nephews.

Starr had tried to find out about dad and was able to get information about his passing but nothing about family, so she had been looking as well. Turns out she lives about 30 miles from Pam in Florida.

I'll keep you guys up to speed on this as well.

Oh yeah, little Randy is doing fine and we now have a 15th grandchild. Our daughter-in-law is being deployed to Iraq in December, so me and Judi will have to hang out the Blue Star Flag.

Randy, thank you for sharing the stories of your life. I hadn't seen this thread before, so I did not know about much of this.

Re: Big changes for Randy

There's an old saying or story about Southern folks, and it goes something like this...

In the North bad family stories, and crazy aunts are hidden away, but in the South we put 'em out on the front porch for the whole world to see and hear about.;)

I won't even go into the story of my mom's cousin who is also mom's sister........And y'all thought only Southerner's had short limbs on the family tree:lol:
