Bills: what's the benefit to me of going paperless

All my bills... credit cards, car insurance, phone, cable/internet, mortgage, etc. want me to "go paperless".

While this clearly benefits them by cutting postage costs, where does it benefit me as I already pay everything on-line?

I like getting the bills for my records and as reminders.
In fact, I started going paperless on my cable bill and found I kept missing it by a day or two as they would send me a reminder two weeks before the due date - so I'd wait... too long.
I could really see how this would benefit credit card companies so they can slap on more late fees.

So where is the incentive?

Other than immediate or near immediate assurance that they got the money I dunno. We did the same thing and kept missing things by a day or 2 but pretty much have a handle on it now.

Another pet peeve...

They don't get the money immediatly. Not one bill that I pay on-line from my bank account is credited immediatly because there is still a couple of days of processing time. So even If I remember "hey! I have to pay my phone bill today" and do it tonight, the payment date is still two days out.

So much for the instantaneous-ness of internet payments.

And, heaven forbid if you mess up inputting an account number :mg: . It took me two months to get a credit card bill straightened out because of that (1 month to be notified about the error, another month dealing with them). Luckily, despite the aggravation, the company did reverse the finance charges. :agree1:

I do everything financial in Quicken and use Quicken Bill Pay and have for over 10 years. Before that I used a different program but can't remember the name off hand. I very rarely write a check for anything.

I set payment for 1 business day before due date and never, ever have a problem with a late fee because of the processing lag. If you're worried about a 1 day overlap, as opposed to 'immediate', you're fighting a loosing battle and - Well, really. One day? Like I say, for me it's a 1 business day prior to the date due and I never have a problem.

One time I did have a problem when I 'tested' the Pay On The Date Due method. Of course, I was charged a late fee. I called the bank after checking online to ensure the money was in fact transferred on the day due, and it was. I called the credit card company and explained that I could prove they did get the payment on the date due and the money was transferred on the date due. They refunded me the late fee but that was the

At the end of the year, taxes are easy - Export the Quicken tax 'report', import into Turbo Tax, import the pervious years TurboTax file, and that's pretty much it. I file taxes every year by the 3rd week in February because by then I know all transactions, 1099's, etc. are in.

The only problem I ever had was one year a credit card company changed addresses. I never paid attention to the address to send a bill to before and after about 6 months I noticed a payment wasn't credited for about a month. Called them, figured out the error and now I do look at the address they have to send the bill to now and again to make sure there are no changes.

I also get most of my statements, like my bank statements, online rather than through snail mail, or through email.

I'd have a hard time going back to paper.

All my banks accounts, credit cards, mobile phone etc are all paperless now. The advantages I find from this are I have less clutter lying about my house, I don't need to spend time filing them away or destroying them if I'm not going to keep them (we've all seen the stories about identity fraud from people taking stuff from your bin) and I can always retrieve a bill easily without having to waste time looking for it or remembering how my filing system works.

I never have any problems with late payment either as they are all set up as standing orders or direct debits.
