Yes, dependant on the year the B/P was created, this will establish the "Implied" rule or relevant method, IE, ASE standard used.

My new understanding is the "Implied" rule is simply treated as tribal knowledge and no longer treated as a rule, less you are using archaic B/P's.

colleges no longer require "drafting" as a graduation requirement for engineers.

We were taught drafting, and you must pass it to graduate in the Tool and Die Program I was in. I'd have imagined that the Engineers would have had to take more detailed and complex drafting classes. :mg:

As far as existing standards regarding implied relationships, the only one I know of is ASME Y14.5, para (if I recall) 2.1.1.2, which deals with implied 90° angles. I might be wrong on the para number, haven't peeked at the standard in a few months.

• Chapter 2 General Tolerancing and Related Principles (pages 23-24) Paragraph 2.1.1.2 Implied 90 degree angle.

If you're referring to ASME Y14.100, it's also available directly from ASME, and the hard copy is $5 cheaper than what IHS is asking for it.

Now I see that it's not ASME Y14.100, but the Drawing Requirements Manual published by Global Engineering Documentation.

Sorry Folks, I bet this looks confusing.

rp8083 was asked to declare any affiliation with IHS. The second post was a denial of any affiliation. The OP was asked to correct that statement (as there was an affiliation), and the OP deleted the statements.
