My boss ( QM ) doesnt want us ( Internal auditors) to put Non conformance in our internal audits eventhough they are really non conformance.. he reckons a NC is " Company Closure"..

The only bad nonconformities are the ones we do not know about.

Your QM's fears will drive out early reporting of system, process and product nonconformities and up will go your costs of nonconformity (= out of business).

You could, somewhat euphemistically, name failures of the system to fulfill requirements as: "needed improvements".

Many organizations go through this thinking only later to recognize the value of calling a nonconformity a nonconformity.

Hopefully your QM will remove the fear of employees and auditors reporting nonconformity soon.

May I refer you to clause 3.6 of ISO 9000?

As it is the normative standard for ISO 9001 these are the terms I use.

Before the year 2000, I said nonconformance as well.

Continued use 11 years after the change could make it seem to some people (including clients and employers) that the user has not kept himself or herself up-to-date.

As stated by my esteemed colleagues, what you call them is not nearly as important as the fact that you do something to eliminate or minimize them. How about Charlies? I think sounds good....Hey boss, I found a Charlie!

Call them anything you or your boss wants, Apples, Duck, Fizztizzles, whatever, as long as what they actually are is understood and required actions are taken.

It doesn't matter and it's nobody elses business.

Call that by the name that he likes .. take actions on them suitably.
Why not call them :
1. Action requests
2. Things requiring corrections
3. Departmental NC's

4. Bump's
5. Oh My God's
