Very respectfully, I believe your boss needs further training or knowledge on Auditing principles and audit concepts.

Furthermore, not calling a NC by its name would result in lower prioritization on Quality System issues identified by the auditors, thus CA or PA may not be initiated timely.

In some companies it may be beneficial to call them something that fits with their business model and something that reflects an improvement in their processes rather than just a slap on the wrist.

My experience is that management repsond better to something that is in their own teminology and that they can see the benefit of. In this day and and since we have moved away from tick box auditing, just telling them something doesn't conform does not always send the right message and then NCs are addressed with the minimum of effort just to get the tick.

By explaining the "finding" and highlighting to them that something would improve the process and have benefits for the business, I get better buy in and far better thought out corrective actions. Also if they put a CA in place just for the sake of the tick, I find that it tends to re-occur but if a well thought out corrective action is put in place the benefits show and it is less likely to re-occur

And your evidence for this is...? You have no way of knowing how things are prioritized in the OP's company. There are a lot of companies that try to avoid negative connotations in characterizing NCs, and the fact that one company might want to put a positive spin on things is not evidence of use of empty euphemisms or that a company is trying to avoid the issues.

Randy stole my idea - I was thinking of calling them Apples. Then again, I love Jim's cat.

But seriously, as most people have mentioned, it is not really important what you call them, as long as effective action is taken. Perhaps your boss would like to call them Improvement Initiators to make it sound more positive (or, perhaps not ).

he always wants us to use AOC.. it doesnt make sense to me really..
Maybe he wants management to know that the time he becae the QM we dont have any NC in our system..

How about just observations?
