Re: Bottom line benefits of Management Standards?
I can see and know how ISO 9001 can save money by reducing defective parts and waste.
If one reads the definition of quality in ISO 9001 2006 Quality Management Fundamentals and Vocabulary, one will find that the definition of quality has got far less to do with product and far more to do with customer satisfaction so therefore ISO 9001 is about customer satisfaction.
To my my way of thinking ISO and the other standards are about increasing the reliability and dependability of the procesess that produce the goods and service. It's the basics that have to be in place before SPC is used.
ISO 9001 and the other standards requires no more than what any good management would do so where is the onerous cost?
As I see it, certification demonstrates that the supplier as at least, a minimum level of provable systematic business performance.
The fact that many suppliers may not have much of a system is to some extent, the fault of the certification bodies.
