Another feature of Firefox and Opera is their excellent download managers. Both will allow the user to stop a download midstream and return at a later time to continue the download, even if you disconnected from your ISP. Try to do that with IE. IE won't even let you pause let alone recover a previous download.

IE is doomed, that is my prediction and I did not consult a psychic .

I'm not real familiar with blogging, but I do know the newest version of FireFox has a feature called "LiveBookmarks". Basically, it is a simple RSS reader built-in so you can scan headlines from RSS active sites by using your bookmarks. I have a bookmark on my toolbar at the top with each RSS site. I can just click that bookmark and see all the headlines for anything interesting.

I also use one of the extensions you can install (it's maybe 10k) that adds, as a right-click alternative, "open in IE" for the few sites that may not render well in FireFox.

Love my FF....... :)

I use both IE and FoxFire, but sometimes FoxFire does not display somethings correctly such as when browsing Microsoft's website. MS website complains that my browser is not up-to-date.
Otherwise it is much better than IE.

I just thought I'd mention yet another way to boost performance: It's not only down to the web browser itself. I have been running the Sun J2SE Java Runtime Environment for a couple of days now, and I have to say that it sweeps the floor with the old Microsoft supplied version I previously used. Much smoother and faster. For those of you inclined to try it: Go to http://java.sun.com/j2se/

Mind you, it worked out great for me, but I cannot say how other systems react to it... As always, before doing anything: Read the instructions!.

I use Firefox almost exclusively. You cannot get rid of IE however.

While you may not be able to get rid of IE, you can tell it to stop bothering you.

When you install a new web browesr on your PC, Windows should assign it as the default web browser. The next time you launch IE after installing a new browser, IE will remind you that it is not the default browser. It then gives you the chance to make it the default browser again. You also get the option to make IE stop checking to see if it is the default browser.

I believe that Firefox does the same thing as well.

It's been 4 weeks since I started this topic. I appreciate all of you contributing on this one, it's great to get other feedback on use besides my own. After 4 weeks of use at home, I LOVE the Firefox browser! I've gone through the SP2 update for WIN XP, and while I got an updated version of IE in the process, I still don't like it as well as Firefox. It's popup blocker is not as good as Firefox's, IMO. Lot's of other stuff that firefox comes out on top in, especially the mouse gestures. Only downside is that some sites simply don't work well on Firefox, but I can always open them up in IE, and I don't go to that many.

I'm sticking with Firefox at home. I'm going to start using it at work also.

Thanks again to all for your comments on the available browsers :applause: . This has been a useful thread for me.
