According to the UK's BSi the new BS99001 Quality Management for the Construction Industry standard will bring those who adopt it operational consistency, improved productivity, reduced costs, increased efficiency, better service delivery, and enhanced reputation. My questions are:
1. Is this standard needed or is it just another shameless opportunity taken to squeeze industry for yet another certification scheme.
2. What are the major differences and benefits of this scheme over ISO 9001?
3. Does anyone believe it will transition into an ISO as some of the previous BS standards have?

Apparently, with the dwindling business in “traditional” management system certification, and the manufacturing sector growing lack of love for 9001 certification, some stakeholders are trying to identify emerging markets. The Chinese wall supposedly existing between the standard development and the “assurance”/certification groups of some entities involved with standards is not only very porous but also laughable.

There are so many examples of standards bodies, certification and accreditation bodies trying to develop ludicrous “accredited system certification schemes”. Unfortunately, in many cases, the marketplace seems unwilling to feed the monster.
